Ignaz Karl Sternberg (Ignác Karel Šternberk)
Ignaz Karl of Sternberg, a future president of the Court of Appeal of the Kingdom of Bohemia, and owner of an extensive library, made his mark in art history as a generous sponsor alongside his eldest brother Wenceslas Adalbert. He undertook his first Grand tour together with his elder brothers from 1662 to 1663 and the second one with Petr of Říčany from 1664 to 1665.
He undertook a part of the educational journey together with his brothers Jan Norbert and Wenceslas Adalbert, left the group in Paris. He entered the convent of the Discalced Carmelites there. On 5 August 1663, he solemnly received the habit and the name of the order. Ignaz Karl eventually left the monastery and returned to Bohemia. Together with his (presumably) cousin Petr of Říčany, he set off on another Grand Tour at the end of April 1664 and got back on 25 April 1665, five months after the return of his elder brothers. This journey is characterized by a rather unusual itinerary. This journey was recorded by Petr of Říčany in a travelogue, written in Czech.
Ignaz Karl served as a president of the Court of Appeal of the Kingdom of Bohemia from 1696 to 1700.
